Something's Not Right On The Farm

In May, I bought some fun farm animal fabric in BC. I started cutting out some animals in the summer, but never did anything with it until last week.

I tried some wonky arrangements, but I'm not quite happy with my dancing farm animals. Way too much background yellow.

At this stage, I have a 3-2-2-3 block layout, 3 blocks for the piggies on the top and bottom rows, 2 blocks for the bigger farm animal squares in the two middle rows. (I feel like I'm describing a soccer-strategy ;)

The 10 yellow blocks are still loose at this stage, and I'm trying to figure out how to fill up the space in between.

Should I quilt something elaborate with brown thread matching the pig-frames?

Should I redo the 4 middle blocks to frame the farm animals? (I'd really like to avoid that)

Should I sash the blocks?

Applique something?

Other ideas?

I'd appreciate your input!

I vote for quilting in brown thread. It should fill the space nicely :0)

I wouldn't start in on anything that already you feel doesn't feel right. Hmmmm does that make sense....I think I'm with Crispy on the brown thread. I've seen so many cute free motion animals maybe something in that vein. But I also am a big believer in not putting too much thought into anything. I've found that when I do this I wind up with a rather long running project while my brain debates pros and cons.

What about bunching up the animal blocks? Have a larger section of background, a closer section of the animal blocks, and another larger section of the background.
I think with that much background any quilting will really stand out, regardless of thread colour.
