Knitted Hat in Petrol Blue

In between quilting, I like to knit. I recently made a hat for myself. No pattern, just trial and error. Then I found some amazing yarn, petrol blue, mostly alpaca (70%) and therefore extremely soft. I immediately thought of a friend, whose birthday was coming up, so I made the hat again, this time for her and with this lovely yarn. It was handy to work with, and kept the store owner's promise that it doesn't get fuzzy over time.

I proved that since I had to redo the upper half FOUR times (!) before I was happy with the result (the hat kept being too short, and I had yarn left over). Every time, I had to open the hat up to the point where I started decreasing stitches, so that I could add a row or 2 (2.5 in the end), and see whether the final product reached past the ears! :) Man, oh man, if one has nothing better to do, eh?

I particulary like the spiral pattern on the top!

City Art

As seen in Hannover, Germany, on 11.3.2012

Variations of these, as well as other things (including a big clock at a central meeting place) covered in knitted creations can be seen all over time. Is it some kind of movement I'm not aware of? Like Acts of Random Knitting?

A Bit Of Knittery

In January, I saw some felting yarn in a store and loved the colours they had (notice that they're the kind of colours Moda often uses :)

I decided to get a couple of skeins of each and make arm and leg warmers - I'm just knitting them regular size and am not planning to felt them (you felters out there - can I hand wash them cold and there'll be no felting going on?).

I've just finished the first arm - summer is just not motivating enough to make warm clothes :) But the nights are getting cool here, below 15 C... so this will pick up, soon - plus, I've discovered the joy of audio books - no time wasted holding a book when I could move a quilting or knitting needle instead :) And as a bonus, the "movie" plays in my head, so there are no interruptions to check what's going on on the screen (I often quilt while watching a DVD). Win-win, I say!

Three Happy Elves

Okay, they're done :)

Here are my three versions of Spud & Chloe's tiny elves :)

I don't know if I ever want to knit elf booties again, they were so tiny!

They all have homes to go to, already and will be traveling to their destinations next week.

Here's something funny I saw over the weekend:

Watched this Christmas tree transport for a couple of blocks, with many stops and readjustments :) Who says you need a truck to get the tree home???

Anyway, now that Christmas is upon us, it'll probably be a time of more sporadic quilting and blogging, but I hope you all have a

Very merry Christmas and a happy new year!

I Am Not A Traitor!!!

But after all this deadline-quilting, I really REALLY needed a break from quilting, so apart from the occasional binding (well, and cutting pieces for a new quilt... with a deadline), I have not really been quilting.

Instead I've been going back to knitting! So indulge me on a brief post about something non-quilty!

I used to knit when I was younger, and a lot in undergrad, when everyone called me "Granny" and snorted. Now, apparently, knitting is the new fashion accessory, as in, if you knit in public, you're cool. Well. Ahead of my times, what can I say, ahem hahaha :)

I only ever did scarves and hats and aborted some started cloaks (it just took too long).

But recently, I came across Spud and Chloe's Blog who had just posted a free pattern for a tiny elf - they looked so cute, I thought I'd give it a try!

Here's my progress so far: three elves in various stages of growing arms and legs :)

I learned i-cord knitting in the process - otherwise they still be arm-less :)
